Menagerie Farm Gearing up for the 2007 Growing Season - Gardens are being redesigned to increase production

Press Release Summary = Menagerie Farm is getting ready to expand their gardens to increase production and variety of produce offered to their customers.
Press Release Body = Menagerie Farm a unique mini suburban homestead located just off of route 52 in Mount Airy is gearing up for the coming growing season. They will once again be offering their small community shared agriculture (CSA) program to the local area. They will be offering their produce and other goods directly from their home beginning in April. Menagerie Farm does not use any chemicals on their produce, their chickens and rabbits are antibiotic and hormone free.
They are redesigning their garden space and creating a series of raised beds that will increase their production. Plans are in place to add a dwarf orchard to their property this will include: apples, peaches, plums, cherries, blueberries and other assorted fruits. One of the new raised beds will be dedicated entirely to culinary and medicinal herbs. The current produce list is growing by request of current CSA members. They are also going to be creating a small green house on the property that will be used to start plants. Many of the seeds they are acquiring are of heirloom varieties.
Menagerie Farm is also replacing their laying hen flock with a mixture heritage layers. They will be offering fresh brown eggs and duck eggs to their customers. Currently they have contracted to Soaring Eagle Farm for fresh free range brown eggs and fresh free range duck eggs. Eggs are included in the CSA package along with fresh baked breads and fresh or dried herbs when available.
To find out more about the community shared agriculture please contact us directly. Full shares will include 8-10 pounds of fresh produce, 2 loaves of fresh baked breads and 2 dozen eggs. Herbs based on availability and recipe cards. Half shares will include 4-5 pounds of fresh produce, 1 loaf of fresh baked bread and 1 dozen eggs. The season will last from Saturday, April 7, 2007 until October 27, 2007. Membership fees need to be paid by February 15, 2007. There is a CSA member's only meeting scheduled for March 17, 2007 from 1 - 3 pm at the farm. Pick up times will be Wednesdays between 4 pm and 8 pm and Saturdays between 11 am and 4 pm. There will be a general farm stand available for non CSA customers, various crafts, and baked goods, more available throughout the spring, summer and fall.
